My name is Kate and I love nature

Forests, oceans, and rivers have always been some of my greatest companions. This love is what lead me to eco-conscious design.

Before becoming an eco-friendly materials consultant, I worked in the NYC art world. I studied art history at Emory University and earned my MA in Contemporary Art at the Sotheby’s Institute. As a curator, I was fascinated by how colors, shapes, and composition affected the visceral sensations of space.

As I learned about climate change and the destruction of ecosystems, I knew I had to become an active ally to the nature I so loved. With a background in art, specializing in healthy building materials seemed to be the natural next step. I took classes at NYU and the Parsons New School. I become accredited by the most esteemed green building certification systems: LEED, WELL, and the Living Building Challenge, and perhaps most importantly I became a forever student.

In 2015 I was hired to be the materials expert for the consulting firm, Healthy Building Science and branched off to cofound a deep green interior design company called The Green Materialist. My new venture, Wise Matter, marries my love of art and design with the science of eco-conscious building materials. My goal is to create beautiful homes that support both human and planetary health.
